Mortgage Readiness

If you're seeing this page, you've likely already achieved mortgage readiness. Congratulations! Keep in mind you must maintain your mortgage ready status throughout this homebuying process. If you have any major changes in your income or debt, contact Linda Griffin.

Homebuyer Education

As a Habitat Homebuyer, at least one person from your household will need to attend one of our Homebuyer Education Sessions. You’ll learn valuable information to help make your homebuying journey successful, including topics like:

  • Understanding your Mortgage
  • Home maintenance emergencies
  • Homeowner’s Insurance
  • Landscaping and lawn care
  • Police, fire, and community safety

We are currently only offering Homebuyer Education as a webinar, but if we do resume in-person sessions, please note that childcare is not provided.

Note: Homebuyer volunteering not required for remainder of 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.

A few important notes about Homebuyer Volunteering:

  • Your friends and family can help you earn up to 50 of your 100 required hours. You are allowed to bring up to 2 helpers each time you go out to volunteer. Youths aged 16 or 17 may also volunteer with a Homebuyer on site.
  • We have 4- and 8-hour opportunities available. Please choose shifts where you can stay the whole time.
  • Don’t forget to pack a lunch and water and dress for the appropriate weather.
  • If you have a disability which prevents you from volunteering on a construction site, please contact Linda Griffin.

Your friends and family will need to register using the link and registration code included in the “Help me Volunteer at Habitat” email Linda Griffin sent you. They will also need to sign up for the same opportunities that you’re attending.

Lending Process

We will contact you to begin the lending process after you attend a Homebuyer Education Session and complete 100 hours of volunteering. You can see the Lending Process here.
